In Other Words…

186,000 miles per second, it’s not just a good idea, it’s the law.

Sounds like?

Seen on a blog discussion thread today…

He’s been trying for ages to clean up his name since he’s matured since then and is not a homophone anymore.

The context? The commenter was talking about a pal of his that used to post some pretty nasty gay-bashing stuff to Usenet way back in the day.

Unfortunately for the commenter, the b and n keys are next to each other.

The retort?

So, what, he’s spelled differently now?

Thank you, thank you. I’ll be here all week.

Ok, so it’s not the funniest thing you’ve read this week, but come on, it’s Friday, laugh. No really, laugh.

  • Amazon’s Best of 2006 is up…

Ever found yourself wondering, “Hey, I wonder what products people bought most from Amazon…”? Now you can have all the answers, at least for 2006.

Warning: The linked site appears to be Amazon, but it is an Investor’s Relations service that Amazon outsources PR to. While probably safe, I wouldn’t try to login to Amazon from there if I were in your shoes.

  • A Web 2.0 Makeover Deconstructed…

Everyone’s all Web 2.0’d out these days. In my recent blog update from the old LameZone to the new stuff you see before you, I’ve incorporated some Web 2.0 elements. And no, I’m not entirely serious about Web 2.0. Mostly, I laugh at Bubble 2.0, err.. Um, Web 2.0.

Mouse over the screenshot to see what I’m talking about.

  • Predictions for 2007

2007 will be a wild and crazy year. We’re on the verge of some cool things, which should show up in 2007.

    1. A Wireless iPod will ship

Will it be Bluetooth 2.0+EDR with A2DP headphones? Will it be a wifi-equipped iPod? Whatever it is, we’ll see it over the next 12 months. And for the record, the much rumored iPod+Phone won’t count toward this one, at least for my score..

  • 2006 Predictions… How Did I Fare?

Let’s jump into the wayback machine to this time last year.. I made 10 predictions for 2006. Let’s see how I did. Last year, I hit 65% correct. Hopefully, I’m improving.

    1. Tiered pricing on the iTunes Store – Didn’t happen. And the way things look now, don’t expect to see it happen. I missed this one.

    2. HD DVRs will drop to more affordable prices. – I’m torn here. The TiVo Series 3 not withstanding, lots of HD DVRs are now within reach of average folks.. I’m claiming this one.

  • Stating the obvious with Borders

So I’m taking a little break from Christmas shopping in the Borders cafe. Just overheard someone ask what kinds of coffee was available.

The answer? “We’ve got a regular and a decaf.”

  • Verizon Wireless and bad Arithmetic.

These guys are just scary. If you haven’t heard about it, go read it for yourself.

How can you get to be an adult and not understand the difference between 0.002 cents and 0.002 dollars?

Don’t get me wrong, not everyone at VZW is like this. The guys I know over there (*not* customer service call center guys!) are good guys and are pretty smart to boot. Maybe they should give basic math lessons to their co-workers.

    Coming back shortly.

The old has passed away. LameZone will be missed, though more better stuff will be returning shortly, bit by bit.

Replacing LameZone is the new blog, In Other Words, complete with its new Web 2.0 compliant logo, as shown above.
